IFRS and AI-powered financial reporting

How AI supports IFRS reporting: statements from the ledger, IFRS 18 categories and subtotals, IFRS 15 and 16 schedules, and where judgement stays human.

In short

AI can build IFRS financial statements from the ledger, keep the supporting schedules current and show how every line was reached. It does not make the accounting judgements IFRS requires. With IFRS 18 replacing IAS 1 for annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, a reporting tool that can place income and expenses into the new categories from the ledger saves real work.

Which IFRS framework applies in Saudi Arabia?

According to the IFRS Foundation's jurisdiction profile, Saudi Arabia requires IFRS Accounting Standards as endorsed by SOCPA, which are the IASB's standards plus disclosure requirements SOCPA added to some of them. Check the current SOCPA text and your auditor for how this applies to your company.

What does IFRS 18 change, and how can AI help?

IFRS 18 replaces IAS 1 for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, with earlier application permitted. It mainly changes the statement of profit or loss: income and expenses are classified into categories such as operating, investing and financing, with required subtotals like operating profit. A tool that classifies each ledger account into those categories, and keeps the classification when the chart of accounts changes, removes much of the manual rework.

What can AI prepare for IFRS reporting?

AreaWhat AI preparesWhat stays with people
Primary statementsProfit or loss, balance sheet, cash flow and changes in equity from the ledger, tied to each otherPresentation choices and sign-off
IFRS 18 categoriesEach account placed in operating, investing, financing or income taxes, with the subtotalsReviewing the classification of unusual items
IFRS 15 revenueRecognition schedules from contracts, deferred revenue tied to the ledgerIdentifying performance obligations and judgements
IFRS 16 leasesRight-of-use assets, lease liabilities and their schedulesLease terms, options and discount rates
ConsolidationTranslation, eliminations and non-controlling interestsControl and ownership judgements

Why does traceability matter for IFRS reporting?

Auditors and audit committees ask how each line was reached. When every statement line opens to the accounts, companies and journal lines behind it, the answer is a click rather than a workbook, and a reclassification is visible as a change, not a surprise.

Questions people ask

Can AI make IFRS judgements?

No. It prepares numbers and schedules; judgements on recognition, measurement and presentation belong to qualified people.

When does IFRS 18 apply?

For annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, with earlier application permitted, subject to local endorsement.

Can we keep our management layout and an IFRS 18 layout?

Yes. Both can be built from the same ledger.

Does this replace our auditors' review?

No. It gives auditors clearer evidence, so the review is faster.
